PARENT INFORMATION EVENING TUESDAY 2 MARCH 2010

Muritai School is hosting an 'Information Evening on NATIONAL STANDARDS' on TUESDAY 2 MARCH from 6:45pm - 8pm (to be held in the school hall).

THE PURPOSE OF THE EVENING IS TO:
  • Help our parent community gain a better understanding of the conflicting arguments and potential impact such a policy may have on your child's learning.
  • Provide insight as to the considerations and work involved when implementing the National Standards policy.
  • Provide an opportunity for our parent community to share their views/ideas for reporting student achievements and progress to parents.
SUGGESTED AGENDA:
  1. WELCOME
  2. FACTS AND PERCEPTIONS: Sharing the arguments for and against. Trying to make sense of all the media coverage, expert's opinions and government agenda.
  3. SCHOOL POSITION: The view of the teaching staff and what work is required in implementing this policy in 2010. Share our concerns and strategies for over coming these.
  4. OUR IMPLEMENTATION PLAN:
  • Staff PD – Understanding the standards for reporting accurately – in an attempt to develop a robust process where consistent ‘judgments’ can be made.
  • Review of current reporting processes.
5. REPORTING TO PARENTS:
  • What a parent should expect to find out.
  • What is meant by ‘plain language’ reporting - reporting on both student achievement and student progress?
  • The role parents are expected to play in their child’s learning.
  • Share the suggested formats for the written reports and ask for input from parent audience.
